Welcome to Kendal Fellwalkers Web site! Welcome to the Kendal Fellwalkers web page. We are a small walking club based around the English town of Kendal in Cumbria, but have a membership from a broader area. We are a local club run by and for members therefore unfortunately we do not cater for visitors holidaying in the Lake District. As our walking parties are relatively small, average of about people, we do not have a formal transport arrangement. Those members interested in undertaking a walk for that week simply meet at 8. Our walks are somewhat more demanding than some other walking clubs, so care has to be taken when appreciating the experience level demanded by one of our walks.

First things first and always being a stickler for prioritising, we cracked open a bottle of wine … and then decided to unpack. My friend had the double room with the bed set so high it needed steps. Yes I did say Bowness, not Spain. Two bottles later hunger got the better of us and we headed the mile and a half walk back towards our cottage on an unsuccessful hunt for a chippy. Oh how we laughed. Back home, fed and watered, it was time for bed to ready ourselves for a day of walking in the rain on Saturday.
Day Two Waking to the sound of rain hitting the window as forecast, it was a pleasant surprise when it stopped and ended up a dry and glorious spring day. Everywhere seemed so alive, budding trees in all shades of vibrant greens and carpets of bluebells. On reaching the summit we were greeted by a glorious view over Windermere and the surrounding countryside, and my friend achieved Expert Level in photo bombing. Having showered and rested briefly with a glass of wine — yes another — we finished our evening with an uninspiring but not unpleasant meal in a local restaurant in Windermere.
Day Three Sadly time to return home so after a lazy breakfast we packed up and bid farewell to our lovely little cottage. Although only the Sunday lunch menu was on offer, still having an urge for fish and chips after our fruitless search on Friday, the chef kindly obliged and … well, just wow. The fish was the size of my head, served with fantastic skin-on chunky chips.

This is an unpretentious, no-frills campsite with an unapologetically back-to-basics approach. Facilities are fairly basic — there’s no reception or shop, and the only source of provisions is the farmhouse in the village offering eggs and milk. The remote location and scant facilities almost makes it feel like you’ve stumbled upon a bygone era — but spend a few days relaxing in Buttermere, gazing into the bubbling beck and eating too many locally made ice-creams, and you’ll begin to understand exactly why this campsite is so well-loved.

And there’s an added extra:
The Lake District is well known for its dramatic scenery, lakes and extensive walks. These can range from more sedate low level walks, which look up into the hills to the more challenging routes which look down into the valleys, we adore both and find it hard to choose!
I went and moved the car while Chris went up to the church. We then went into the Tea Emporium for a coffee and then bought fish and chips. Before we left Ironbridge we walked over the bridge to the old toll house. We had another wander along the river to the car and headed to the Coalport China Museum. The Museum was such an interesting place and saw so many beautiful pieces of china.
After we had a browse in the shop and another coffee, we came to a one laned bridge we had to cross. We sat and indicated for them to back up but there was no movement. I got out of our car and approached the driver. Both he and the passenger were quite abusive. He had to be asked twice as he backed back but stilll not far enough so we could pass. In the end we were able to pass. By this time there was quite a queue, but I was quite angry as we had the right of way.

Linked tours For over two hundred years, tourism, agriculture and industry have enjoyed a synergy in the English Lakes thanks in part to its rich and diverse geology. The striking contrasts between fell and dale are apparent to all visitors, the result of glacial action during the last few thousand years, when the snow and ice melting around very hard rocks formed lakes in the valleys left below.
